Fez - The Danish parliament rejected on Wednesday by 160 votes against 12 a draft law that aimed at recognizing the "Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic."

The draft law, was proposed in January by two MPs of the Red and Green coalition, according to Moroccan news website Alyoum24.

According to the same source, seven groups of the Danish parliament voted against the proposal. The Danish MPs justified their votes saying that, although they don’t approve of all the policies adopted by Morocco in the Sahara, they support the negotiations process to achieve a mutually acceptable solution under UN auspices.

The Green and red political coalition has previously visited the Tinduf camps and is supportive of the Polisario front.

This vote comes four weeks before the Security Council's vote on extending the mandate of the United Nations Mission in the Sahara, known by its French acronym as MINURSO, for one more year. The current mandate of the MINURSO will expire on April 30.

In recent months, four countries were added to the list of countries who have suspended or withdrawn their recognition of the Polisario’s self-proclaimed RASD. After Haiti, Panama and Paraguay, Mauritius decided last January to withdraw its recognition of the so-called SADR.
