According to the daily Spanish newspaper El Pais, it is more likely that the Spanish government will appoint Mr. José de Carvajal Salido as its new ambassador in Madrid to replace Ambassador Alberto Navarro, whose mission as Spain’s Ambassador in Rabat will end this summer.
This upcoming change in the Spanish Embassy in Morocco comes after Mr. Navarro was appointed as representative of the European Union in the Dominican Republic, according to the same source, which added that his appointment came at the request of Ms. Catherine Ashton, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy for the European Union.
The appointment of Mr. Salido is a continuation of the work carried out by Madrid in order to consolidate its relations with Rabat and make them immune against all tensions or crises.
The prospective Ambassador is familiar with Morocco, as he was Spain’s Consul General in Tangier before being appointed in early 2012 as his country’s Ambassador to NATO.
