Princess Lalla Salma, chairperson of the Lalla Salma Foundation for the Prevention and Treatment of Cancer, accompanied by Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, president of the Foundation for Family Development and the United Arab Emirates’ General Union of Women, inaugurated last Wednesday the "Sheikha Fatima" Center for Genealogic Cancer Treatment at the National Institute of oncology in Rabat.

The creation of this center is part of a fruitful partnership between the Lalla Salma Foundation for the Prevention and Treatment of Cancer, the Ministry of Health and Ibn Sina Hospital in Rabat, with great recognition to the financial support of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak.

This new structure, based at the National Institute of Oncology in Rabat, specializes in treating gynecological breast cancer, doctors training and scientific research in this very field.

Furthermore, the Sheikha Fatima Center is already deemed among the leading health centers that provide specialized treatment of gynecologic breast cancer, featuring services such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery.

The construction of this center, whose total area is 5190 m2, required a budget of MAD 58 million. Lalla Salma Foundation for the Prevention and Treatment of Cancer contributed with MAD 43 million, whereas the Ministry of Health along with Ibn Sina Hospital in Rabat contributed with MAD 15 million to the budget.

The center consists of five divisions: a central pharmacy, a unit featuring 7 consultation rooms, a colposcopy room, a unit for gynecological breast surgery, a hospitalization service and a research unit.

The different units the center consists of can accommodate up to 20,000 medical consultations, 650 surgeries and 1,200 hospitalizations annually.

Ultimately, Princess Lalla Salma awarded the International Prize of the Lalla Salma Foundation for the Prevention and Treatment of Cancer to HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, in recognition of her efforts in supporting the fight against cancer in Morocco.
