Casablanca - The Federal Republic of Germany and the Kingdom of Morocco concluded a treaty on June 24, 2014, strengthening the two countries' collaboration to improve Morocco’s health sector.
The German Ambassador to Morocco, Michael Witter, and the Moroccan Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mbarka Bouaida, signed the treaty in Rabat during a visit by dignitaries from the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
Germany and Morocco have worked together since Morocco's independence in 1956. This latest cooperation will focus on the well-being of Morocco’s citizens and on identifying and combatting contagious diseases.
The new agreement aims not only at strengthening the quality of life in Morocco, but on preventing people from dying. The liaison will focus on rapidly identifying the causes of serious illness and controlling it with appropriate treatment and medication to stop it from spreading.
Moroccan doctors and scientists will also benefit from training sessions that will improve their knowledge and skills in coping with dangerous illnesses. In addition, the process of reforming the health system in Morocco will profit from German professional know-how.
Moreover, it is planned to organize workshops to promote cooperation with stakeholders in Moroccan public health institutions. Meanwhile, additional training in the areas of safety, hygiene, education and responsibility will be offered to Moroccan students.
The actual implementation of the agreement is still under discussion by the German and Moroccan negotiators. Once the details of the new collaboration have been agreed upon, they will be presented to the international authorities for approval.
