Azrou - The Moroccan High Authority of Audiovisual Communication (HACA) recently released statistics showing how much of talk time public figures are given in all audiovisual services for the year 2013.
Women in Radio and Television
The report reveals some surprising numbers: namely, the public talk time of female personalities in the news. Women are not even reaching 9% of total airtime for all channels and radio stations nationwide.
Only 2M TV newsletters allow women to speak more than 9%. On 2M, women are given nearly 17% of airtime, while the average for other media outlets is 8%. Poor performers are MedRadio and Radio plus Agadir with less than 4%.
Politics on radio
In its report, the HACA also discusses the representation of political parties in the media.
The government ranks highest for all channels with up to 18 hours of talk time, versus 3:16 to the parliamentary majority, 2:55 for the parliamentary opposition and 23 minutes for non-parties represented in parliament.
According to statistics, Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) and Idependence Party (Istiqlal Party) carve the lion's share in the distribution of talk time in the opposition, while the Justice and Development Party (PJD) is widely ahead in the distribution of talk time in the majority.
