Meknes- Following the recent "weird" fatwa issued by Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti and General President for Scientific Researches and Fatwa, Abdul Aziz Al Ash-Sheikh, prohibiting pro-Gaza marches, Moroccan scholar Sheikh Ahmed Raissouni said that jihad in Palestine is legitimate, contrary to the doubt that hovers over the legality of jihad in other conflict areas in the Muslim world.
According to the Moroccan Arabic based website Alyoum24, the Moroccan scholar said that who ever wants "unquestionable jihad" should go to Palestine.
The Moroccan Islamic scholar stressed that the jihad that is not questionable is the one "aimed at the liberation of Palestine and the support of the people of Palestine," on the grounds that since the occupation of Palestine no fatwa has been issued questioning its legitimacy, he said.
The Moroccan scholar, however, denounced the self-styled "caliph" of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
"Al-Baghdadi's declaration is just an illusion, and what is more, everything that comes of violence can only bring misfortune for the Muslim world," he said.
Since the Israeli shelling of Palestinians started on July 8, demonstrations have been organized in Arab and non-Arab countries alike in solidarity with the Gaza Strip.
