Washington, D.C. - Today marks the first day of the U.S. Africa Leaders Summit, a historic gathering of Presidents and Heads of State of African Countries in Washington, D.C.
Never before have the leaders of 50 African countries assembled in one place to address economic, security, and peace issues and challenges facing the African continent and its relations with the U.S.
The three-day Summit is intended to advance the Obama Administration’s focus on trade and investment in Africa and highlight America’s commitment to Africa’s security, democratic development, and people. The essential purpose of the Summit is to foster stronger ties between the United States and Africa.
The theme of the Summit is "Investing in the Next Generation,”according to information made available by the White House. Focusing on the next generation is at the core of any government’s responsibility and work, and the Summit is expected to review ways of stimulating economic growth, unlocking opportunities, and creating an enabling environment for the next generation of citizens and leaders.
The National U.S. Arab Chamber of Commerce (NUSACC), in support of the Summit, this morning presented a forum of distinguished panelists at the Willard Hotel, entitled, “North Africa: Challenges and Opportunities in a time of Transition.”
Mounir Abdel Nour, Minister of Trade and Industry in Egypt, Mbarka Bouaida, Minister of Delegate of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation for Morocco, and Meriem Bensallah-Chaqroun, President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises spoke about business opportunities in their respective countries.
The forum presented also the perspectives of three distinguished U.S. Ambassadors: the Honorable Henry Ensher, U.S. Ambassador to Algeria, the Honorable Dwight Bush, new U.S. Ambassador to Morocco, and the Honorable Jake Walles, U.S. Ambassador to Tunisia.
The panels were followed by a lively question and answer session focussing on entrepreneurship and how U.S. companies can do business in North Africa.
Ms. Bensallah-Chaqroun announced that the fifth Global Entrepreneur Summit will be held in Marrakech on November 20-21, 2014.
