Rabat - A report published earlier this week by the Moroccan daily Assabah claimed that two suspected cases of Ebola were being treated at a Casablanca hospital. The report, which was published by a number of online news outlets, including MWN, was widely shared and commented on in social media.

In the absence of a communiqué from the Moroccan authorities, MWN investigated the veracity of report.

But insider sources acquainted with the matter, who were contacted by MWN, said that there are no cases of the virus whatsoever and that Morocco is an Ebola-free country.

The two cases, a woman and a child, have undergone serological examinations Moulay Youssef Hospital, which has been chosen by the Moroccan authorities to deal with suspected cases of Ebola based on recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO). But the tests showed that they have not developed Ebola.

The same sources added that the cases which have been admitted to the Moulay Youssef Hospital are merely "suspected" cases and not something to cause panic or raise concerns about Morocco's vulnerability to the deadly virus that killed more than 4,000 people so far, mainly in Western Africa.

In a press conference last week, Health Minister, El Houcine El Ouardi, said that Morocco has no cases of Ebola thus far although the danger is still looming, especially with cases being tested positive for the virus in countries relatively far from Ebola-strickenWest Africa, such as the United States and Spain.
