Rabat- A cocaine trafficking network led by a police officer stationed at the Police Academy in Kenitra that supplied cocaïne to affluent areas of the capital of the Gharb, was dismantled on Saturday in Kenitra, according to Al Akhbar.

The newspaper, citing its own sources, says it all started with very close monitoring of luxury restaurants and bars where intelligence officers noticed dubious activities going on that aroused their curiosity.

They followed a number of suspects, and, to their surprise, the investigation uncovered that the leader of the criminal drug trafficking gang of five was none other than one of their own: a police officer stationed at the Royal Academy of Kenitra.

The same source added that the investigators went to the home of the main defendant and seized about four kilograms (more than 9 Ibs) of hard drugs, plus an electronic scale for weighing the drugs, which were sold in affluent neighborhoods in Kenitra and Rabat.

According to Al Akhbar, the officer-turned-drug-dealer abused of the trust of his job to avoid drug controls. His two suppliers were also arrested.

The police officer arrested in connection with this case has been suspended from his duties by the General Direction for Surveillance of the Territory (DGSN), pending the completion of the investigation..
