Rabat - A young man working as a "Cireur", or shoeshine boy, attempted to immolate himself on Saturday evening inside the police station at Avenue Hassan II in Casablanca, after he was arrested for sniffing glue and paint thinner.
The 21-year-old shoeshine boy, poured paint thinner on his body and set himself on fire using a lighter.
According the authorities, the police extinguished the fire, but his legs were burned. The police took the victim to the hospital to receive necessary aid.
The same source added that during the investigation, it was revealed that the shoeshine boywas just released from prison on October 25 after completing a five-year sentence for being involved with a murder, along with his brother.
The young man told the police that he has tried to commit suicide 25 times and he attempted to hang himself in his cell when he was in prison.
