Marrakech- YouTube, a subsidiary of Google company since 2006 when it bought it for $1.65 billion, is studying the idea of paid subscriptions for users who want to check their content without ads. YouTube’s CEO, Susan Wojciki, expressed her desire to diversify the revenue sources of the video platform by expanding YouTube’s business model, at a conference on the previous Monday in California.
Today, YouTube’s main revenues come from advertising, with estimated revenue at more than $3.5 billion according to eMarketer, a firm based in New York and specializing in analysis of new technologies.
YouTube has two strategic projects currently under consideration: a paid version of the video platform, where there would be no advertising and users will have more options according to their trends, and a no-pay option with ads.
People say “I don’t want to see the ads, or I want to have a different experience,” Wojcicki said in an interview expressing users’ Views.
So people will “either choose ads, or pay a fee, which is an interesting model.… We’re thinking about how to give users options,” she added.
Wojciki said that YouTube will shortly launch a streaming music service fee. Without providing specific details, she indicated that it will be a new service to compete with services offered by "Spotify" and "Pandora Media Inc."
