Rabat to Host 1st Edition of Visa For Music Africa and Middle East

By Hemidach Amjad

Fez - Visa for Music, a festival that promotes Arabic music and culture will be held from November 12 to 15 in Rabat.

The first Visa for Music in Rabat is an opportunity for professional artists in the region to share ideas and speak about future projects. More than 650 artists, directors, festival managers, and producers have submitted their candidacy to participate in this event.

The objective of Visa for Music is to help artists participate in different local or international festivals and events throughout the year. It is an opportunity to bring African and Middle Eastern artists to the international scene.

"We have organized various concerts and shows in order to enable festival managers and directors to discover artists live on the stage and select them for future events and festivals,” said Brahim Mazned, according to Telqul.

Although organizers of the event would like to make the festival an annual event to further improve collaboration between artists, directors, and festival managers, they face many challenges in doing so.

Stronger partners are needed to support the initiative and create different ways to make it happen every year. The event is still young and looking forward to the civil society and other stakeholders’ support.

This event concerns professionals who will exchange invitations to participate in future festivals and share their experience to develop cultural diversity for the public.

There will be also a number of shows that are open to public attendance. Some of the prominent artists include the Dubosmium Moroccan DJs, DJ Van, Alif Ensemble, Don Bigg, The Lebanese Mashrou’ Leila band, and the French-Moroccan band of N3rdistan.

This unprecedented project is expected to expose African and Middle Eastern music to the world, encourage artistic mobility between these regions, and to enrich Morocco’s musical and cultural scene.
