Rabat- Issa Hayatou, President of the African Football Federation (CAF), seems to be determined that CAN 2015 will be played at the scheduled time (17 January- February 8) even if it is not hosted by an African country.
Following Morocco’s decision to insist on a postponement of the 30th edition of the CAN 2015 for fear over Ebola virus, CAF is now considering Qatar as an alternate venue under the original schedule, Tunisian radio reported earlier tonight, according to Moroccan news outlet Alyaoum24.
CAF has already asked Equatorial Guinea and South Africa to jointly host the tournament, according to the same source. If they refuse, CAF will be left only with Qatar to host it.
Following its meeting on Tuesday in Cairo, the executive committee of the CAF decided that the African Cup of Nations 2015 will not take place in Morocco. The decision also means that the Moroccan national team is “automatically disqualified and will not take part in the 30th edition of the forthcoming African Cup of Nations.”
