Rabat- Head of Government and Secretary General of the Development and Justice Party (PJD) Abdelilah Benkirane held his breath last night as the plane that was taking him from Rabat to Oujda, went through strong winds.
Speaking to his party members during the opening of PJD’s regional council being held today in Oujda, Abdelilah Benkirane said that strong winds dangerously shook the aircraft that was carrying him to the eastern city.
“You were about to go to Rabat for my funeral, rather than attending this council,” Benkirane added jokingly, while addressing PJD members.
The joke, however, reflects that this incident was very dangerous and could have cost him his life.
Benkirane praised the plane’s pilot, describing him as ’resourceful’’, since he succeeded in handling the plane through the wind. The piloteventually changed theits direction of to Abdelah Laroui International Airport in Nador, where they landed safely.
Abdelilah Benkirane spent the night in Nador and made his way to Oujda this morning in order to attend the opening of his party’s regional council.
Multiple media reports say that the jet, which is part of Royal Air Maroc RAM, was supposed to land in Angdad International Airport of Oujda, but had to redirect its course to Abdelah Laroui International Airport in Nador.
