Marrakech- The Nigerian extremist group Boko Haram murdered forty-eight fishermen in northeastern Nigeria along the shores of Chad Lake on Sunday.
"Dozens of Boko Haram fighters stopped fishermen on the shores of Lake Chad, who were going to the village of Doron Baga, and killed a group of forty-eight merchants who were on their way to buy the fish," said Abu Bakr Gmendi, an official in the group.
The group slaughtered half of the victims about 15 kilometers from the village, while it dumped others in the lake. The fighters did not use firearms, so as to not reveal themselves to international forces that were in charge of safety in the region.
Doron Baga is located 180 kilometers north of Maiduguri, and is under control of the international peacekeeping force, which includes troops from Nigeria and neighboring countries Chad and Niger.
An officer in the Nigerian army confirmed the attack, but said, "We do not have details because the area under the control of the multinational forces."
The group has previously committed several crimes, including kidnapping 276 female students from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno State on the night of April 14, 2014.
