Rabat - The EU’s Ambassador to Morocco, Rupert Joy, welcomed, on Friday, the submission by Morocco of the ratification instruments of the Optional Protocol to the International Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.
"The EU congratulates Morocco on submitting the instruments of ratification of the Optional Protocol to the International Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment," the EU diplomat told the press.
"This initiative illustrates Morocco’s efforts and its commitment for the consolidation of democracy and fundamental freedoms and human rights," Joy added.
The entry into force of the Protocol on December 24 entails the setting up of protection mechanisms against torture including the right to access detention centers without prior notice, he noted.
On November 24, Morocco submitted to the UN the ratification instruments of the Optional Protocol of the International Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.
