Rabat- Abdelghani Jabbar, a journalist and editor of Al Aoula, resigned because the Moroccan national television channel did not properly covered the flooding that hit Guelmim, in southern Morocco.
Originally from the Guelmim region, which was devastated by floods last week, the journalist resigned from his job as editor-in-chief of the division of the Arabic News of Al Aoula this week.
In his letter of resignation, which went viral on social media, Jabbar said that his decision is in solidarity with “the denunciation of the population of Guelmim to Al Aoula’s coverage of the floods in the region last week."
For the journalist, these very serious floods deserve more coverage from television channels, which did not show the full extent of the damage.
In a statement to Alyaoum24, Jabbar said that the television crew did not reach the affected until three days after the floods began.
“They did not show what happened inside the city, but rather focused more on aid provided to the population," he said.
