Rabat - A Moroccan man in Denmark has been jailed for four years on grounds of supporting and condoning terrorism in posts on Facebook.
Said Mansour, a Danish-Moroccan who works as a bookseller, reportedly posted on Facebook messages such as "We are terrorists, and we are proud" and "Jihad is a duty".
The lawyer of Said Mansour was quoted by Reuters as saying that his client's posts on Facebook were a matter of freedom of speech, just as Danish cartoonists who depicted prophet Mohamed in 2005, were deemed to have been exercising their right for free speech.
"I just used the civil rights that Danish society has given me," 54-year-old Mansour said in his defense statement, adding that he had hurt no one.
However, a Copenhagen court rejected Mansour's arguments and ruled on Thursday that he had directly incited violence and terrorism.
The Moroccan also posted altered pictures of the severed head of one of the cartoonists who drew Prophet Mohammed. The cartoonist's head was pictured in a toilet and surrounded by flames and blood, according to Reuters.
Mansour was jailed before for three and a half years in 2007 on the same charge. Both then and now the prosecutor suggested he be deported to Morocco.
