Marrakech - Algeria intends to secure its western borders with Morocco through electronic surveillance, after Morocco began constructing an electronic fence on its eastern border a few months ago. “The project of promoting the measurements of securing the western borders, via electronic monitoring is under study. The electronic monitoring, which based on technologically developed devices such as cameras, is reliable in supporting the work of the units in charge of guarding and security of the land borders" said the second regional department commander of the Border Guard (concerning the west of the country), Colonel Abdul Karim Sandy, in a press conference in Ouhran.

The Algerian response, came only after Moroccans undertook the project of constructing a border fence extending in different parts of the city of Saidia to the Jerada province in the eastern region of the kingdom.

The border fence will cover vital strategic points along the eastern border with neighboring Algeria, which has a length of approximately 1560 km, according to Alyaoum24.

Additionally, it has been reported that the border fence will cover all areas used as secret outlet crossings in both directions, so that it also serves to counter the smuggling phenomenon.
