Rabat - Morocco’s capital Rabat will soon have the highest suspension in Africa.
The shape of the Rabat Bridge is emerging from the waters of the Bourgereg River.
Moroccan Television channel Medi1 did a report on the new Rabat Bridge that will connect the two banks of the Bourgereg River.
The news report posted on YouTube by Medi1 on Wednesday, February 25th shows that the bridge has progressed toward its planned openings. The full bridge is to be completed by the end of this year.
With a total length of 950m, the bridge is expected to become the longest cable-stayed bridge in Africa. It will support a motorway section of 41 km that will bypass the town of Rabat in connecting the two banks of the Bourgereg River. It will also become the highest bridge in the African continent with 160 meters in height.
The project will cost an estimated MAD 640 million (around $68million). It will be jointly financed by Autoroutes Du Maroc and the World Bank. The bridge is designed to improve safety and alleviate traffic.
