Rabat - Communication Ministry on Friday slammed the statement of Reporters Without Borders (RWB) on freedom of expression in Morocco as "unfair, unjustified and contradictory with the reality of press freedom in Morocco."
In a statement, the Ministry highlights the efforts made by Morocco in recent years, which have been “consolidated by the adoption of a new Constitution, the development of a press and publishing law draft.”
The same statement noted that these efforts have “contributed significantly to improving a number of press freedom indicators and the consolidation of a political, legal and adequate economic environment that promotes free and independent exercise of press freedom, while strengthening Morocco's openness to foreign media.”
The Ministry said that Reporters Without Borders “has not contacted Moroccan authorities and has been content with presenting a single version of isolated cases, while it should have, as an organization defending press freedom, cross-checked the information relating to each question. This has deprived the RWB statement from its neutrality and objectivity.”
“RWB has ignored the clarifications made by Moroccan authorities through statements published on the issues raised by the RWB statement, the ministry added.
