Satirical Video Mocks Morocco’s PM on Women's Day

Rabat - A satirical video, posted on YouTube on March 7, depicts Abdelillah Benkirane, Morocco’s Head of Government, doing housework and singing Zina Daoudiya’s controversial song, “Atini saki.”

The video shows the caricature of Benkirane with an apron washing the dishes and mopping the floor.

The sarcastic cartoon shows the Head of the Government talking with his wife Nabila Benkirane, who appears wearing a  Jellaba.

The video was posted a day before International Women’s Day, and is meant to show the Head of Government’s attempts at reconciliation with women.

Benkirane told his wife to ask Mustapha El Khalfi, the Moroccan Minister of Communications and the government’s spokesman, to bring two pieces of sugar in order visit to Milouda Hazeb, the leader of the PAM in Morocco’s House of Representatives, to seek reconciliation after his “slip of tongue”.

At the House of Representative’s monthly session of oral questions to the head of the Government, held early last month, Benkirane lashed out at Milouda Hazib, saying in Moroccan Arabic, “rah dyali li kbir 3Lik” meaning literally “mine is bigger than yours” (in reference to his political party). Several people took the remark out of its original context and gave it a sexual connotation.
