King Mohammed VI Rejects Request to Hold Phone Call with Nigeria President

Rabat - Nigeria's opposition All Progressives Congress Party (APC) has urged the President Goodluck Jonathan to apologize to Nigerians for the "embarrassment" caused by the false claim that he spoke via telephone with Mohammed VI, Nigerian daily Premium Times reported.

According to the same source, Nigeria's foreign Affairs Minister Aminu Wali urged Nigerians not to politicize the issue, saying that President Goodluck Jonathan was not involved.

"I have already taken action on the President's directive and of course some people are trying to make this whole thing political," Wali said at the Presidential Villa Abuja after a meeting with the President.

"And of course, at this level of our diplomacy, a lot of things can happen. So we are trying to find out, and I will like to say that the President has nothing to do with it. This is something that has happened and there is a bit of mix-up somewhere along the line. We are going to unravel it," he added.

The Nigerian Presidency has already confirmed that the President Goodluck Jonathan did not speak on telephone with king Mohamed VI as claimed by the Nigerian Foreign Ministry.

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has also ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter that sparked a diplomatic row between the two countries, with Morocco recalling its ambassador from Abuja.
