Rabat - Barcelona star Lionel Messi has been named the world's highest paid footballer.
According to a survey conducted by French sports magazine France Football, Messi's total income for 2014 stood at $71.3 million. The income includes his wages at Barcelona and numerous sponsorship deals.
Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo is the second-highest paid football player with $59.2 million, while Barcelona's striker Neymar is third with $40 million.
Four-time FIFA Ballon D'Or winner, Messi has sponsorship deals with sportswear company Adidas, EA Sport's FIFA 15 and Turkish Airlines.
France Football's survey was based on experience, quality and marketability of the players to be featured inside the top ten.
As for managers, former Los Blancos and current Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho leads the way. The Special One accumulated £13.2 million last season ahead of Arsenal's Arsene Wenger (£8.3) and Manchester United's Louis van Gaal (£7.3).
