Real Madrid Win 2014 Club World Cup

Rabat - The hosting of the two editions of the FIFA Club World Cup 2013-2014 in Morocco cost the country more than half a billion Dirhams, daily newspaper Les Eco reported.

The estimated total costs of the 2013 and 2014 FIFA Club World Cup are estimated at around 554 million Dirhams. The initial budget was only estimated at around 16 million Dirhams.

According to the same source, the money came mainly from the general budget of the state and from numerous publicly-owned companies and institutions.

The state paid an estimated 320 million Dirhams to the governing body of international football (FIFA) in order to cover the costs of organizing the tournaments.

The Sport Development Fund contributed with 94 million Dirhams, while Morocco's railways company (ONCF) and the Moroccan National Tourist Office paid 25 million Dirhams throughout the two editions of the FIFA Club World Cup, Les Eco added.

Moving the semifinal match between Cruz Azul and Real Madrid from Rabat to the Grand Stadium in Marrakech cost an additional 2 million Dirhams. The game was moved due to the poor condition of complex Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah in the capital Rabat.
