Rabat - A pro-PJD forum has called for repeat sex offenders and pedophiles to be chemically castrated.
According to the daily newspaper Al Massae in its Friday 24th issue, Azzahrae Forum, a pro-PJD network of over 90 women associations, has unveiled on Wednesday a memo to the Minister of Justice and Liberties which includes a set of proposed amendments to the Moroccan Penal Code.
Among other measures, the forum has proposed that child molesters and pedophiles undergo court-ordered psychological treatment with the aim of stopping sexually deviant behavior. Repeat offenders who don't seem to be deterred by heavy sentences shall undergo chemical castration which reduces sexual drive and suppresses male hormones.
Although it reduces libido, chemical castration does not necessarily eliminate the ability to have an erection. It does not involve the removal of testicles, nor is it a form of sterilization. It also considered reversible when treatment is discontinued.
The use of chemical castration as an instrument of punishment has also raised concerns over human rights. In some countries, it is presented as an alternative to life imprisonment or surgical castration.
In their memorandum, Azzahrae Forum has also called for the new Penal Code to include the criminalization of collective begging with children.
