Rabat- Plans are underway to build a 450-meter-tall tower in the Moroccan Sahara desert, known as Western Sahara.
France-based architecture firm OXO ARCHITECTS has revealed a futuristic concept for a large-scale real estate project codenamed the "City Sand Tower".
What could be Morocco's tallest building is expected to be built deep in the Moroccan Sahara desert. Construction work on the project is set to start in 2025.
According to the company's website, the project is a vertical city that will rise to a height of 450 meters (1,476 ft.) and occupy a total floor space of 78 hectares.
The vertical city will include a hotel, around 600 housing units, shopping center, conference rooms, sports area, a spa, a panoramic bar and restaurant. The tower also includes a meteorological observatory, a desert museum and offices. The city will be fully autonomous and energy self-efficient and it will also have a vertical farm inside.
Collected rainwater would be used to irrigate the internal farm and also to produce electricity and heats water for the tower's heating system. The tower is expected to be run using renewable energy including solar and geothermal.
