Rabat - Workers in Morocco enjoy much more paid time off than employees in any other part of the African continent.

According to Mercer's latest Worldwide Benefit and Employment Guidelines, Moroccans have access to the greatest amount of statutory paid vacation/holiday in Africa. Statutory Holiday entitlement is the amount of vacation time off that, by law, employers must provide to their employees.

Morocco leads the way with 14 days each year, followed by South Africa with 12 days. Lebanon tops the list of Arab countries with higher levels of statutory paid holiday with 16 days. The United Arab Emirates is the least generous with only 9 days.

Workers in India and Colombia enjoy much more paid time off, as mandated by law, than employees in any other part of the world with 18 days.

At the other end of the spectrum, employees in Europe have relatively lower levels of statutory paid holiday (eight to 15 days per year in most countries).

The report provides an overview of employee regulation and employment practices across 64 countries worldwide.

Data are based on employees with 10 years of service who work a Monday-through-Friday week.
