Rabat- Secretary General of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), Driss Lachgar, has called on Head of government Abdelilah Benkirane to submit his resignation to king Mohammed VI.
In a meeting of the party's administrative committee on Saturday, Lachgar also called for early general elections in order to put an end to what he described as the state of tampering that has engulfed the Moroccan political landscape.
Lachgar said the current government led by the Party of Justice and Development (PJD) "has failed miserably in everything", adding that "the irresponsible behavior of its ministers has tarnished the country's reputation abroad."
He was referring to news suggesting that Habib Choubani, Minister in charge of Relations with Parliament and Civil Society, has asked for the hand of Soumia Benkhaldoun, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Executive Training.
USFP leader has also criticized the Benkirane government for its "inability" to make a government reshuffle and its lack of action to fill in a vacant ministerial post as vital as the Sports and Youth portfolio.
