Last Wednesday, Mohamed Laabid, a 70-year-old Moroccan tourist in Italy was beaten to death by an alleged mentally ill individual while waiting in line to buy a ticket at Rome’s central Termini station.

According to Italian news sources, the Italian criminal, 25, started violently punching and kicking the elderly Moroccan tourist in public for no reason, causing him severe internal injuries and brain damage.

Laabid was taken immediately to Umberto 1 hospital where he succumbed to the severity of his injuries.

According to police services, who subsequently arrested the attacker, the latter suffered from mental illness. Yet, he was reportedly tried and incarcerated for murder.

The Deceased Mohamed Laabid, married and with children, was staying with some relatives in Rome. He was planning to head to Venafro, near the capital, where his military father was buried after his death in Italy during WWII.

Morocco’s consular services in Italy are now getting in touch with Laabid’s family in Morocco in order to repatriate his body.
