Deeply struck by the scenes of horrendous and unprecedented violence against civil protestors in Rabaa Aladaouiya –scenes of smashed skulls, broken ribs and chests, scattered guts, severed limbs, and blood pools everywhere – Moroccans have largely taken to the streets in support of Muslim brotherhood and democracy in Egypt since the Sit-ins Disengagement at Rabaa El-Adawiya.
In Rabat, Fez, Meknes, Tangier, Tetuan, Casablanca, Guercif, Marrakech, and other cities, Moroccans expressed their deep condemnation of the exaggerated violence against civilians and called on the international community to intervene to set the train of democracy back on its way and end the massacres against the Egyptian people.
At the time of writing these lines, hundreds of protestors are marching from Bab Al-Ahad to the Square of the Parliament in Rabat after several human rights groups and organizations decided to organize a national march in support of the Egyptian people. Moroccan Commission for Championing the Causes of the Nation, Moroccan Initiative for Support, Moroccan League for the Defense of Human Rights, Moroccan Center for Human Rights, Moroccan Federation for Human Rights, and Dignity Forum for Human Rights all participated in the march under the banner “all against the bloody coup in Egypt.”
Human rights groups and organizations described the current events taking place in Egypt as “a backlash against the democratic process which was built by the Egyptian people in blood since the glorious revolution of January 25.”
Rachid Benmousa, a participant in the March, said: “We express our solidarity with our brothers in Egypt and condemned the heinous massacre carried out by the police and the coward army against the peaceful demonstrators.”
On the virtual world, many Facebook pages and groups have been created in support for legitimacy in Egypt such as “Moroccans with Morsi, with Legitimacy,” “Moroccans with Legitimacy and against the coup of the Army and the Secularists,” “Moroccans with Legitimacy in Egypt” and “Moroccans with Legitimacy and against the Bloody Coup.”
Those activists believe that what happened in Egypt is a deliberate process to steal the glorious revolution of February 25 by the “Fuloul” of the old regime.
