Rabat - An Egypt court has sentenced former President Mohammed Morsi to death over a prison break in 2011, media reports say.

The Egyptian court ruled on Saturday that the death sentence against Morsi and 105 others will be referred to the country's Grand Mufti, Egypt's highest religious authority, for confirmation.

Many of those sentenced were tried in absentia, including Qatar-based influential scholar Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the same source added.

The court will pronounce its final verdict on June 2.

Morsi has already been sentenced to 20 years in jail for ordering the arrest and torture of protestors during an anti-Mubarak protest.

Morsi was deposed by the military in July 2013 following mass street protests against his rule. Egyptian authorities have also banned his Muslim Brotherhood movement and arrested thousands of his supporters.
