Rabat - Communication Minister Mustapha El Khalfi has responded to calls for him to resign following the broadcast of Jennifer Lopez concert on state-owned television 2M.

El Khalfi reacted on his official Twitter account, saying the broadcast of the American diva's Mawazine concert on public television is "unacceptable".

The PJD Minister also said the decision to allow the broadcast of the show during which Lopez and her crew performed suggestive dances on stage is "unlawful".

This comes after social media users called upon the Minister of Communication to resign following the broadcast of the concert on public television funded by taxpayers.

They also denounced what they see as the Moroccan government's double standards in dealing with the performance of Jennifer Lopez and Nabil Ayouch's "Much Loved".

The government decided to ban the film "Much Loved", Nabil Ayouch's latest film on prostitution on grounds that "it is a flagrant attack on the kingdom's image", but at the same time allowed the American star to perform evocative dance moves on stage, which were broadcasted on the Moroccan channel 2M.

El Khalfi said he would contact the high authority for audiovisual communication, the country's regulatory body that regulates the practices of TV and radio channels, on the matter. He also announced his intentions to contact 2M's ethics committee "to consider the ethical dimension of the broadcast."
