CASABLANCA - The symptoms of internal dissonance within the Istiqlal Party party are surfacing once again. The Istiqlal Party (IP) office in Agadir in southern Morocco, received a large number of resignations from disgruntled members, including both collective and individual resignations.
Sources close to the Moroccan daily Assabah confirmed that the IP branch in Agadir acknowledged receipt of many resignation letters from members who chose to terminate their affiliation to the party, as well resignations from other members who decided to quit some key positions without giving up their membership.
The president of Aziar’s Urban Community in Agaidr submitted the first resignations. Eight resignations followed and were submitted to the IP regional coordinator and the IP regional secretary in Agadir.
Seemingly, the Istiqlal Party (IP) is on the verge of collapse in Agadir with the growing number of departures, especially with the resignation of members elected to Agadir’s urban communities.
The members who resigned held the IP secretary in Agadir, as well as the regional IP inspector accountable for the frailty of the IP structural organization in the southern city, the monopoly of management, the absence of internal democracy, and the lack of coordination and the general mood of apathy inside the IP branch.
“Everyone noticed the deliberate neglect to write the name of two names of the IP members in the list submitted to the local authorities. The exclusion of these two members was deliberate and stands in disagreement with the IP organic law and its honorable ethics”, argued the outgoing members.
That said, the members who left the IP asserted that they will support their party despite their resignation. They expressed that they criticize the managerial policies that fail to live up to the expectations of IP militants, especially after the constitutional reforms and the advent of a new leadership, rather thanthe actual party.
