Rabat- Spain’s football team Barcelona has decided to extend coach Luis Enrique’s contract until 2017, according to Spanish sports newspaper El Mundo Deportivo.
The decision puts an end to the uncertainty over Enrique’s future with the Catalan club.
Following his team victory in the Champions’ League last Saturday over Juventus, the 45-year-old head coach told the press that he would discuss his future with the club after the final.
Enrique’s initial contract was due to end in 2016, and it seems that the win he brought to the club in an exceptional season has convinced the direction of the club to extend his contract for one more year.
Before the extension of Enrique’s contract, Barça’s President said there was no reason for the club not to keep him as head coach.
“I have no doubt regarding Luis Enrique’s continuity. He is under contract and has done a magnificent job,” Bartomeu told Radio Catalunya.
“I don’t see any impediments for him to continue with a team that has started on a winning cycle. I see him as being very enthusiastic. If I am re-elected as president, one of the things I will do is offer Luis Enrique a contract extension,” he added.
