Rabat - A 12-year-old girl was rescued on Monday after having been swept out to sea from an unguarded beach in Bouznika near Rabat.
The rescued girl was one of 46 people from a sports association who were swimming at the beach when eleven of them were swept away by the waves.
After being rescued by a Royal Gendarmerie helicopter whose pilot spotted her in the ocean, the girl was airlifted to Souissi Hospital in Rabat during the early hours of Monday.
The little girl was exhausted as a result of fighting for long hours against the waves, reports say.
Local authorities are said to be searching for other potential survivors using helicopters and inflatable boats.
