Rabat - Chairman of FIFA's audit and compliance committee, Domenico Scala, has reportedly said that Russia and Qatar could lose their rights to host the upcoming World Cups in 2018 and 2022 if evidence surfaces that the two countries were involved in buying votes or bribery during the bidding process.

Morocco is a potential replacement to Qatar should there be evidence that the oil-rich Emirate bribed its way to win the right to host the 2022 World Cup.

Russia and Qatar's World Cup finals have not been subject to any charges thus far. However, the ongoing FIFA investigation led by US authorities is expected to put the bidding processes of those two countries under examination.

If evidence emerges of bribery in the two bidding processes, Russia could well be replaced by England in 2018, while Morocco could replace Qatar in hosting the 2022 World Cups, according to French radio RTL.

The same source said FIFA's Executive Committee may try to reward Morocco since the kingdom has made numerous attempts at hosting the prestigious football tournament.

Another reason to be optimistic is that FIFA will try to rectify its mistakes after British media reports revealed new evidence suggesting that Morocco had actually won the 2010 World Cup vote in May 2004, but FIFA decided to award it to rival bidder South Africa.

However, for FIFA to award the hosting rights to Morocco, the latter has to be cleared from the accusations that it had allegedly tried to bribe some members of FIFA executive committee to secure theirs votes for its 2010 World Cup bid.
