Sidi Ifni- According to France 24, the phenomenon of racism against African immigrants in Morocco has recently become rampant.
Following the outrage sparked by the death of a Senegalese victim of racist attacks who was killed during a fight on a bus in Rabat, African immigrants, along with their governments, rang an alarm bell and called for more tolerance.
“We are asking King Mohammed VI to intervene," African immigrants demand.
Once in Morocco, a number of immigrants admit to being assaulted, taunted, and stigmatized. Many others admit to being subject to everyday violence.
"Three Moroccans mugged me, brandished a knife at me and stole my pocket money and mobile, " an Africa immigrant told France 24.
"Moroccans insult us and call us black, and we feel we are being discriminated against," he added.
Some Moroccans point out that that they do not get along well with African immigrants, particularly because, in their view, the latter are a social and economic burden on society.
"We do not accept African immigrants to rent our houses or to live in our neighborhood. Most of them cannot afford to pay the rent on time, " a Moroccan family from El Jadida told MWN.
"They insist on giving them alms, while we ourselves are poor, " another Moroccan adult from Agadir told MWN.
Despite the fact that Morocco is trying to strengthen its ties with several Sub-Saharan African countries, , cases of racism against immigrants coming from these countries continue to intensify.
