Rabat - Amid corruption allegations around the 2018 and 2022 tournaments, FIFA has decided to suspend the bidding process for the 2026 World Cup.
FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke said Wednesday that FIFA would "postpone" the bidding process for the 2026 World Cup, adding that "due to the situation, it is nonsense to start any bidding process for the time being."
The 2026 tournament had been expected to be allocated to a host nation in May 2017 in Kuala Lumpur.
The United States, Canada, Mexico and Colombia are thought to be interested in hosting the prestigious tournament.
FIFA boss Sepp Blatter has announced he will resign from football's world governing body amid the ongoing allegations of corruption, including the indictment of 14 officials on corruption charges by US authorities.
