Rabat - At least twenty-four people have been killed and many others were injured in a suicide bomb attack on a Shia mosque in the Kuwaiti capital.
The state-run television reported Friday that a bomb had exploded at the Imam Sadiq mosque in al-Sawaber area in Kuwait's capital during Friday prayers.
A group affiliated with the Islamic State (IS), also known as ISIS, claimed responsibility for the bombing, saying it had killed and injured dozens at the Shiite-affiliated mosque in Kuwait City.
The terror group posted a statement on social media which identified the suicide bomber as Abu Suleiman al-Muwahed and said the target was a temple of the Rafidah (rejectionists), a term used by the Islamic group to refer to Shia Muslims, according to Al Arabiya.
The Reuters news agency reported that the mosque was packed with some 2,000 worshipers at the time of the explosion.
This happened the same day as gunmen in Tunisia stormed hotels in the tourist resort town of Sousse in an attack which left at least 27 people killed, including foreign tourists.
Another person was beheaded Friday and others were left injured in a terrorist attack at a U.S gas factory in an industrial small town in southeastern France.
It is not yet known whether these attacks were coordinated.
