Rabat- Paraguayan player Derliz Gonzales will never forget the moment he scored the penalty kick that enabled his national Team, Paraguay, to qualify to the semi-finals of Copa America. However, what should have been a happy memory was unexpectedly ruined by a tragedy.
Derliz Gonzalez played an instrumental role in helping his team beat Brazil and move on to the next round of the Latin American tournament. In addition to scoring the final penalty kick that secured his team a place in the semi-finals, he scored the goal that tied the score against Brazil. Brazil was winning the game until the 70 minutes, when Gonzalez scored a penalty kick that tied the game and sent the two teams to penalty kicks.
But what should have been a wonderful day for him and his teammates turned into a nightmare. Gonzalez lost his uncle, who died from a heart attack exactly the moment he scored the penalty kick that secured the win for his team.
The player learned about his uncle’s death while he was celebrating the victory with his teammates.
Gonzalez expressed his sadness by posting on his Twitter account.
"Why my uncle today? Why? You left us after a heart attack because I gave you so much joy and happiness. I cannot believe it," Derliz Gonzalez wrote on his Twitter account.
