Fire at Casablanca Mohammed V Airport

Rabat- A fire broke out Tuesday in the landing field in the airport of Mohammed V in Casablanca.

"The fire broke out on Tuesday, July 7 at 14:00 in the airport area, specifically at the connecting ramp north of the track," said the National Airports Office in a statement.

The same source added that the fire was triggered by the scorching heat wave that struck Nouasseur, in Casablanca, but the firefighters of airport quickly controlled it.

"With the exception of putting on hold two aircraft for a short time before landing, the fire had no impact on the flow of traffic," the airport office said.

A new heat wave is hitting Morocco this week with temperatures reaching up to 44 degrees Celsius in some regions of the country, especially in in Sidi Ifni, Guelmim, West of Laayoune, Boujdour, Oued Eddahab, Aousserd, Tata, Zagora, Taroudant, Agadir, Inezgane, Agadir Ait Melloul, Chichaoua, Benguerir, Marrakech, Essaouira, Beni Mellal, Tadla, Kelaât Sraghna, Sidi Slimane, Moulay Yaacoub, Meknes, Fez, Sidi Kacem and Taounate.
