Rabat - Simo El Adala, the Moroccan boyfriend of American teenager Rebecca Arthur who was reported missing before she was found safe in Morocco last Friday, said that his aunt had paid for his girlfriend's trip to Morocco.
Contrary to what American media and police said, Simo said his aunt asked to see Rebecca's parents' permission before helping him financially.
In an interview with news website Al Yaoum24, Amina El Adala, Simo El Adala's aunt, said that she paid nearly MAD 20.000 for Rebecca Arthur to fly to Casablanca from New York on board Morocco's national carrier Royal Air Maroc.
Amina added that she only accepted to pay for Rebecca's travel expenses provided that Rebecca first obtains her parent's consent to travel to Morocco.
American media and police claimed that Simo El Adala arranged for his girlfriend's trip to Morocco without his parent's knowledge or consent.
This claim was debunked by Amina who said that her nephew told the family about his girlfriend's plans to visit Morocco and her willingness to discover the country.
Amina added that she helped Simo financially because his father could not afford to pay for the plane tickets from New York to Casablanca.
