Rabat - European Union citizens not subject to a visa requirement will no longer need a passport to enter Morocco, as the Moroccan government will allow them to enter the country with only their valid identification card, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Tourism on Wednesday.
However, Morocco will only accept European Identity Cards for trips organized by tour operators. Tour operators should present a list of EU tourists to the Moroccan General Directorate for National Security (DGSN) 72 hours before they arrive.
The statement went on to add that the Interior Ministry has exempted EU nationals from the strict application of the law 02-03 November 11, 2003, which requires foreigners provide valid passport to enter Moroccan territory.
The Moroccan Tourism Ministry has reportedly submitted a proposal to the Interior Ministry in which it suggested facilitating formalities for tourists.
The Interior Ministry approved the proposal on Wednesday after holding initial talks with the Ministry of Tourism and the Moroccan General Directorate for National Security (DGSN).
