Rabat - A German newspaper said that “Much Loved (Zin li Fik)," the highly controversial film by Moroccan director Nabil Ayouch, should be banned for minors under the age of 18 in Germany.
The German newspaper "SüddeutscheZeitung" criticized Nabil Ayouch’s film following its screening atthe Munich International Film Festival, which was held from June 23 to July 2, 2015.
The film should be "prohibited for all the minors under the age of 18,” the paper said.
Although it supports Nabil Ayouch and his right to defend freedom of expression in Morocco, the newspaper noted that prostitution does not exist only in Morocco. It regarded the director’s reaction as “exaggerated” when he said he was "shocked" by the outcry that his film created in the Kingdom.
The same source added that the Moroccan director exposed viewers to “vulgar language” and “hard to bear” scenes.
While it was banned in Morocco, “Much Loved,” which tells the daily life of four prostitutes in Marrakech, will be released to the public on September 16, 2015 in France.
Nabil Ayouchpreviously admitted that “Much Loved” could be "hard to watch" for some people, stressing that he was not hostile to the idea of screening the film with a warning and a ban for young viewers.
Mustapha Elkhalfi, Minister of Communication, said last June that the decision to banMuch Loved in Morocco serves “to protect freedom of expression, which absolutely does not mean freedom of absurdity and destruction in cinema.”
