Rabat - Head of government Abdelilah Benkirane has reportedly hired a private tutor to help him learn English.
Benkirane, who highlighted in many occasions the importance of learning English, only currently speaks Arabic and French.
But Arabic-speaking news website Al Yaoum24 reported that the leader of the Party of Justice and Development has hired a private tutor to teach him English.
"Personally, the thing I regret the most in my life is not having learned English very well," Benkirane told members of his party during a previous meeting.
"Because when I go to the United Nations, I need English. When I visit Arab countries and Asian ones, I need English. And when I go to various African countries, I need English too there," he added.
Benkirane also called for the adoption of English as the first foreign language in Morocco and using it in schools across the country, instead of French.
"We all agree on teaching our students languages,” he said.
"However, if we have to choose between English and French, then we will choose English as it is the language of today’s science, technology and commerce."
