Rabat - Morocco is becoming one of the Chinese people’s most favorite tourist destination.
According to China.org, “more Chinese tourists are choosing Morocco as their travel destinations.”
The same source added that “a batch of 21 people is the first among 1,000 such tourists,” thanks to the Beijing-based World Tourism Cities Federation and the China International Travel Service Co.
The federation will reportedly hold tourism summits in Rabat, the Moroccan capital, and Fez, one of the Kingdom’s best tourist destinations, from Sept 20 to 23.
"Morocco is a beautiful country with profound history and culture," Yan Han, deputy secretary-general of the federation, said at a press conference in Beijing.
In its efforts to boost the tourism sector, the government “is working to make things easier for Chinese tourists,” said Khalid Fathi, chief representative of the Moroccan tourist office in China.
Fathi added that “the Moroccan government would assist Chinese tourists to get visas in a week's time. The visa procedure would likely be streamlined.”
While there are no direct flights between China and Morocco, the same source said that “the package this year for Chinese tourists includes a stop-over in Dubai.”
Despite the lack of direct routes linking the two countries, “between 3,000 and 4,000 Chinese tourists visit Morocco every year,” China.org said.
Being the second largest economic sector in Morocco, tourism accounts for around 8 percent of GDP, employing some 500,000 people.
