WASHINGTON - The daily "Annas" founded by Mustapha El Fan, former journalist for “Al Massae,” is building the starting blocks for his new venture.

El Fan is now finally able to complete his project despite some initial difficulties, with financial assistance provided by a social networking campaign.

According to sources close to Maghreb Intelligence, some "mysterious" donors had to come to the rescue of the new editorial project when it began to spread its wings and lift off the ground. The support came from informal funds advertised in social networks established by several offices and state-owned companies such as OCP, ONCF, AMI, and ONEE. Funds such as these aim to support the development of digital media, and have approached some websites to offer them commercial/financial as well as editorial partnerships.

This approach, social networking to acquire funding, can normally be viewed as loaded with shortcomings, but other start-ups have been reaching out for funding in a similar manner as well. The PJD have also decided to start their own Arabic daily as well as several Internet news sites, finding their daily "Attajdid" insufficient.

“Attajdid” is co-owned by the Unity and Reform Movement (MUR). Alongside MUR, a team of executives from PJD have launched a major media campaign and have been working on the project for several months, managing to raise considerable funds.
