Casablanca- Morocco and the United States have recently signed an agreement on mutual assistance in customs matters.
Moroccan Minister of Economy and Finance, Mohamed Boussaid, and U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, Mr. Rand Beers, signed the agreement on Thursday.
This agreement will allow Morocco and the United States to cooperate on a wide range of customs-related issues, ranging from the collection of revenues, the fight against cross-border crime and the protection against security threats.
The agreement also features mutual assistance in the fight against terrorism, which is the common priority of both Morocco and the United States.
The agreement, signed during a ceremony at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, will also allow Customs administrations of the two countries "to better detect, investigate and prosecute violations and customs crimes affecting the movement of goods across borders.
Some of the customs crimes both countries face are illicit trafficking, money laundering and terrorism-related activities.
