Fez- While Algerian politicians for decades have been oblivious of the pivotal role played by Morocco in their independence, a candidate to the presidential elections, declared in a TV show that without the help of Mohammed V, the former king of Morocco, Algeria could not have achieved its independence from French colonialism.

During an interview to the Algerian TV Ennahar, Rachid Nekkaz, a politician candidate to the presidential elections, pointed out that Algerians forgot the help provided by King Mohammed V to their country during the revolution against French rule.

“We forgot that King Mohammed VI is the one who helped Algerians during the revolution,” he said

There were five armament factories in Morocco to supply the Algerian Mujahideen,” he added.

“Moroccans are our brothers, and to those who say the contrary, I say, they are Muslims like us and our neighbors. In addition, whether we like it or they are our brothers.”

He went on to say that Algeria needs Morocco to build a powerful bloc.

"We, in Algeria, believe that we are powerful with our oil and gas. We need to wake up, alone we are nothing," he said.
